TRIINNGG Alarm clock at 3 a.m.
Excited and ready for new adventures, we all gather at the station of Dendermonde.
'Flight AZ157 to Rome Fiumicino (or like Mrs. Paquet says FCO - fucco) is ready for departure', that's the start of a beautiful trip.
A delicious Starbucks coffee makes us all forget the early hour we had to get up.
‘Flight AZ1263 to Naples Capodichino Airport is ready for departure’.
We almost didn’t hear this announcement because we were too busy screaming ‘kukeluku’!
A very large and comfortable bus takes us to our new Italian friends. I’m a little bit nervous, but especially curious when Linda and I drive to my new home for the next 5 days.
Linda’s very warm family immediately spoils me with delicious food: pasta, fries, meat, tomatoes (or pomodore, like they say, which sounds a hundred times better) and fruit from the business of Linda’s parents.
After our (late) lunch, we drive to Luisa's home, the host family of Lise. We walk a bit and we eat a delicious ice cream from the mozzarella company where Luisa's parents work.
Before we go out at night, I take a very relaxing shower in (my own!) bathroom, and then we leave to Agropoli. Together with some Italian friends of Linda, we have a Thé alla pesca, my favourite Italian drink! We watch a beautiful sunset in the port and suddenly I forget how tired I am, and I just enjoy being here.
We have dinner together with Luisa and Lise, and we play mini soccer.
I scored once, and I said tsjaka, unaware of the consequences...
Tjsaka becomes the favourite Flemish 'word' of our Italian friends.
And then it's time to got to bed... In my own room... On my own storey...
My first day here was tiring, but very interesting!
The second day starts by a typical Italian breakfast
and then we leave to Paestum, which Italian people pronounce as Pestoem :).
Before all the other students arrive, we buy a ball and
play volleyball together with Luisa, Lise, Simone and Sam.
We visit the lovely Greek temples and
then it's time for lunch with the whole family.
I already feel like a real family member!
We eat ravioli, cotoletta and baba for dessert. Baba is a sort of cake with a lot of rum in it, but I didn't expect so much rum! After lunch, I drink one of the best coffees in my whole life!
We prepare to go to Agropoli with friends and for dinner with the whole group of exchange students. It was a very nice day and we had a great view over the port and the sea.
Our Italian friends are amazing, they are very sociable and we have a lot of fun!
We teach each other words in Italian / Flemish on our way to the restaurant, where I eat a pizza Diavola. After dinner we play volleyball at the beach and we drink a cocktail in a lounge bar. I can’t say much over there, because during the whole trip I have a hoarse voice, or like Linda taught me, a mal di gola.
We need to get up early at our third day in Italy, we go to Pompei by bus. On our way, we have a little stop to drink another good coffee, and then we are good to go!
Pompei is a very nice city, it’s very famous and now I can see why. We sing Pompei from the band Bastille, and we discover lots of beautiful places. Lise and I eat a torta della nonna, I think I just fell in love…
After the bus ride, we prepare to go out to Agropoli with Luisa, Lise, Otilia, Dakotha and other friends from Linda.
Sunday, our ‘free’ day. I get up and Linda, her parents and I go for breakfast in a small restaurant. I eat a very large croissant with Nutella, and once again, I fall in love…
After breakfast, we stay a bit at home and I read in my German book for school.
At lunch, we eat pancakes with ricotta, parmesan, mozzarella and cooked ham.
It’s something very simple, but it’s so good that I want to make it in Belgium when I get home.
Around 5 p.m. we all go to Santa Maria, where we get the chance to tan a bit. It’s very warm and from our place at the rocks, we can see a fantastic sunset. I’m so happy to be here.

After dinner, we return home and we go to sleep.

Monday, one of those days a lot of people hate because a new week of school starts.
Well, today I’m not one of them.
I’m actually looking forward to go to Linda’s school and to discover differences between our education system and theirs.
I can tell, there are a lot differences. Our first lesson, Physical Education, is already a big difference. They don’t have to wear sportswear, and Linda tells me that you can also study during PE, or even sleep a bit!
After PE we have French from a very nice teacher, we sing French songs and we make a lot of fun. After a little break, Lise and I work on our project together with Linda and Luisa.
It goes very well, we divide our tasks and within our two hours, our project is finished.
We made a nice quiz about sign language, the difference in meaning for Italian and Belgian people, but also about typical Italian / Belgian signs.
There are a lot of differences, but of course also lots of similarities, but if you want to know which they are… You have to do the quiz we’ve made!
When school finishes at 1 p.m. we go to the station of Agropoli, where we take the train to Salerno. We shop a little bit, eat a delicious ice cream and we walk very close to the sea.
It’s a very hot day, but especially a very nice one. We are a very good group, we all really enjoy being here together. I bought my first (pink!!) selfiestick in Salerno, that’s a souvenir with memories!
I have my last dinner together with the whole family, Linda’s parents, her two sisters and her brother, and after dinner we go out in Agropoli.
Being there, in a nice pub with a nice drink, I can already say that we made friends here.
I really don’t want to leave.
Last day, last breakfast, last ‘Buongiorno’, I can’t believe it’s almost finished.
I say goodbye to the family, to the little dog Champagne, and then we leave for school.
There’s a protest going on, so a lot of teachers are absent, but the teachers of Philosophy and French are there.
This day is one of the most fun days I ever had at school!
After school, our whole group goes to the public park of Agropoli, where we have a drink and a chat. Then we leave for our last meal in a nice restaurant.
I eat penne with tomatoes and basilica, and an escalope with fries.
We take a few photo’s with the whole group and then it’s time to say goodbye. I’m sure that we will see each other again, and I’m already planning my next trip to Agropoli ;).
‘Flight AZ1274 to Rome, Fiumicino is ready for departure’. The official end of an unforgettable trip with unforgettable people. Fortunately, we can make our return fun by singing our SVI song in the airport of Rome!
‘Flight AZ0164 to Brussels is ready for departure’. Oh no. I don’t want to. I hope one of our suitcases is on the wrong plane, so we have to come back!
‘Suitcases from the flight out of Rome on tire 2’.
I wish I had never said that, because there is a suitcase missing… But we aren’t going back.
Well, not immediately, but definitely in the near future!
Alla prossima volta, Linda!
