Sam in English

Thursday, the 30th of April

Today we exchange Belgium for Italy. To Agropoli, the city where we hopefully will have fantastic memories and will make new friends for life. For all these things we’re prepared to get up at 3 o’clock a.m. It’s quite early ;)

Today we will take two buses and two planes. And of course, a coffee break in Zaventem is necessary: we do it on the Italian way!

Finally we reach our destination: Agropoli. In this city we will stay for six days. Our Italian friends, with who we corresponded to since September, are yet waiting for us on the school. I will stay with Simone these days. One by one goes everybody homewards. Simone and I leave last. His father picks us up. With Simone as interpreter welcomes he me.

At home, I drop my luggage and immediately I go exploring the environment of Agropoli on a typical Italian way: by moped! Great! I love it! With full speed through the mountains and along the fields. I won’t forget this moment quickly!

After one hour driving we arrive in a little town (I forgot the name, I’m sorry!). Lots of friends of Simone are waiting for us, ready to play a little football match. And they can play football! With some of his friends who can speak English, have I some conversations. But if they can speak English or not, they receive me all courteously!

When the sun is gone we go back to home. Simones uncle and aunt, who lives in Switzerland, are visiting us. I speak with them in German. Knowing your languages and been able to speak them is quite useful! Simones mother has cooked for us, and the appetizer is already enough for me ;) Italian people can really eat a lot! But everything looks fantastic so I taste a lot!

Friday, the 1th of May

Sleeping more than a few hours (like I yesterday did) pleases me. Simones mother baked me some coffeecakes. Delizioso!

Simone and I go to Luisa and Lise before we go farther to Phaestum. Luisas family greet me fullheartedly too. Immediately get I a cup of coffee. In fact, this is my first coffee in years! And I like it J

We wait for the others in Phaestum. Luisa and Simone buy a volleyball, I buy some postcards for friends in Belgium. We play volleyball in the middle of the street with view on the temples of Phaestum. Not everybody can say he has played volleyball with this view! ;) When everybody is arrived, we visit the site of site of Phaestum. The ruins are beautiful, we don’t have something like this in Belgium!

After our visit, we go back to Luisas home. Again we play a volleyball match while Luisas mother is preparing our dinner. Luisa and I compete Simone and Lise. Of course we win (I’m sorry Simone ;) ). The score is 21-17 . Luisas dog, named Luna, don’t like the volleyball but comes to see us when we’re finished. He’s so cute!

After our dinner, we go to Agropoli. There are lots of street artists and musicians on the street. It’s a national holiday today. On the fair I buy some nougat and I eat together with Dakotha and Jordi an ice-cream. I get used to eat a lot I think ;)

In the evening we eat all together in a restaurant on the beach. Some other students come too. After our meal we play, surprise surprise, another volleyball game. I become quite good at it I think! A little bit later we go back home.

Saturday, the 2th of May

Today we have to get up early. A quick breakfast (and drinking the first coffee of Simones mother) and then going by bus to school. We’re going to visit Pompeii!

On the way we take a coffee break, this is my third coffee of today. I get a taste for drinking coffee. Thank you Italy! ;) In the bus I sit next to Otilia. She tells me something about Romania, where she is originating from. I may always go to Romania when she’s staying there with her family! We learn Simone some Dutch words also. Dutch with an Italian accent, quite funny. J But our Italian with a Dutch accent will be also very funny I think ;)

After our hour-and-a-half during bus trip we are in Pompeii. Even though it’s half past ten, it is really warm here. I’m sorry but we have to eat an ice-cream! ;) It’s my first time in Pompeii. I’m astonished how huge it is here. So many ancient buildings to see! Of course we sing ‘Pompeii’ from Bastille, you can’t come to Pompeii and don’t sing that song!

In the afternoon Simone and I go to Otilas home, together with Dakotha. We rest a while and play with the volleyball, and then we eat Romanian. I actually don’t know exactly what I’ve eaten but it was de-li-ci-ous! And as dessert, tiramisu! I love it!

In the evening Otilia and Simone take Dakotha and me Agropoli. Even when it’s dark and the night is falling, this city looks beautiful. We visit the castle and walk along the port to the Maria statue. We laugh a lot and make fun. I enjoy this evening very much!

Sunday, the 3th of May

Today we won’t do a lot. We sleep late this morning ‘till 11 o’clock. Afterwards we view television. Simone loves catch, I think Americans are insane. We also see some performances of Italian’s Got Talent. I don’t understand a lot but I like the songs I hear.

This afternoon we eat with Simones family. Later we meet everyone at the beach of San Marco. I wanted and so I do swim in the Italian see. We stay at the beach to watch the sunset. It is very beautiful, this I will miss in Belgium!

We loiter around the village square near the church. A street-dog comes to us, oooh I like him! I know I’m fond of dogs. We go to a restaurant before everyone go homewards.

Monday, the 4th of may

Today we have to get up early, not sleeping over like we did yesterday ;) After all, we go to school today!

At school, all the Italian people make for us. Everybody knows that we were coming. We get some lessons: gym and French. We all like the gym because everyone does what he wants to do. Quite funny! Our French teachers greet us wholeheartedly. They even know the Belgian singer Stromae! After the French lesson, we works with our friends on our little games. Jordi and I work together with Lisa and Simone. They show us beautiful places in Italy and vice versa. Lisa tells me even about the Perugia Festa, a chocolate festival. I must see that once in my life!

When the school is finished, we take the train to Salerno, the city the Italians want to show us definitely. We must have visited this city before we leave Italy. In Salerno Dakotha and I eat some French fries of a Dutch chip shop! We are real Belgians so we stop here for a while. ;) We slander, calmly, quietly. The Italian way!

In the evening we eat together. At this moment we realise tomorrow we leave Italy. How sad!

Tuesday the 5th of May

This morning Simones mom baked for the last time some coffeecakes. I will miss them! I pack my suitcase and then we leave.

We gather at school where we continue our games. Our Monopoly game take shape!

We eat for the very very last time together with our friends. Some teachers come as well.
In the end our bus is arrived (too early in my opinion!). We say goodbye to everyone, some people with tears in their eyes. We will miss them!

At this moment I finish my blog. It was a fantastic, unforgettable, memorable experience. We have made lots of friends. I recommend everybody to have such an experience as well!
Goodbye! Arrivederci!
